How we work

HBA works around a core process: inviting, receiving and carefully selecting companies to present their business and investment proposition, providing the forum for entrepreneurs seeking funds and facilitating investment by members.

HBA is a membership of investors who make their own decisions regarding investment and invest, alone or as a syndicate, in early-stage businesses which are typically raising between £50,000 and £250,000 or more seed equity investment. Henley Business Angels is not a fund and is not regulated by the FCA.

HBA has adopted a simple funding process that starts with screening of applications against investment criteria to select promising businesses for interview. Following the interviews, the panel selects 5 businesses to present to the membership. Selected entrepreneurs receive tuition to be ready to present at the quarterly meetings of the membership, known as the Company Presentations. In these Company Presentations events, typically held in the late afternoon and evening, the membership hears presentations from selected entrepreneurs. If interested, members will carry out their own due diligence and negotiation. Investments will be made directly by the interested member or group of members.

Throughout the process, HBA supports both the entrepreneur and angel investor through a range of activities and resources.

HBA operates with a Thames Valley focus, investing in start-ups and early-stage businesses based in the region.
